
The stock market opened with strong gains on Friday, the last trading day of the week. The BSE Sensex surged 144.56 points to trade at 61,576.30, while the NSE Nifty 50 rose 41.85 points to reach 18,171.80. Banking, IT and FMCG stocks saw early gains, with SBI leading the pack. However, the market closed with losses on Thursday due to pro-government selling.
On Thursday, the stock markets experienced a downward trend for the third consecutive day. The BSE Sensex closed down by 129 points, and the National Stock Exchange’s (NSE) Nifty fell 51.80 points. This was despite strong quarterly results from country’s largest bank, SBI, and diversified business operator, ITC. The market was dominated by profit-booking, with the 30-share benchmark BSE Sensex closing at 61,431.74 points.
