
Pak: Death toll in Peshawar blast rises to 63, Tehreek-e-Taliban took responsibility for the attack

In Pakistan, the death toll in the blast in the mosque of Peshawar in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has increased to 63 while 157 people have been injured. Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility for the attack. Officials said the suicide bombers sitting in the front row were offering zohar (noon) prayers near Police Lines area at around 1.40 pm. The attacker blew himself up. Officials at the Lady Reading Hospital said more than 150 people were injured. The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility for the attack. He said the suicide attack was in revenge for the death of TTP commander Umar Khalid Khursani who was killed in Afghanistan in August last year. A police official said a portion of the mosque collapsed in the blast and several people were believed to be trapped under its debris. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief General Asim Munir reached Peshawar to review relief and rescue operations.
