Congress MP Santokh Singh Chowdhary, during his Bharat Jodo Yatra, was taken to a hospital in an ambulance in Ludhiana, where he passed away. Santokh Singh Chowdhary was the MP from Jalandhar. It is being told that Santokh Singh Chaudhary died of heart attack. He had participated in Bharat Jodo Yatra with Rahul Gandhi today. It is being told that earlier he complained of cold and his health deteriorated. After this, he was taken to the hospital via ambulance. Where doctors declared him dead.

Congress MP Manish Tiwari told the whole incident

Describing the incident as tragic, Congress MP Manish Tiwari told India TV over phone that Santokh Singh Chowdhary was walking with him at some distance in the Bharat Jodo Yatra and we were together half an hour ago. He said that suddenly he saw that an ambulance took him away. The Congress MP said that he was wearing a black track suit and we exchanged greetings when we saw each other. Manish Tiwari further said that he was our elder and we had been together for many years. He said that the Bharat Jodo Yatra has been put on hold for the time being.

After the death of Santokh Singh Chaudhary, Rahul Gandhi has stopped the Bharat Jodo Yatra for the time being. The yatra was going from Ladowal toll plaza in Ludhiana towards Phagwara today. Santokh Singh Chaudhary’s health deteriorated at around 8.45 am. After which Rahul Gandhi also went to the hospital to see him. But the Congress MP passed away. Please tell that Chaudhary Santokh Singh was 76 years old.

Let us inform that Santokh Singh Chowdhary had won the parliamentary election from the Jalandhar constituency of Punjab. In the year 1978, Santokh Singh Choudhary became the Senior Vice President of Punjab Youth Congress. After this, in the year 1987, Chaudhary was made the President of the District Congress Committee of Jalandhar (Rural). In the year 1992, he won his first assembly election and became MLA from Pillaur seat.

In the year 1992 itself, he became the General Secretary of the Punjab Congress Legislature Party. In 1995, Santokh became the Chief Parliamentary Secretary (in charge of Rural Development and Panchayats, Parliamentary Affairs and Power Department). He was later made the Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare in the Government of Punjab. After this he was the Minister of Food and Civil Supplies in the cabinet.

In the year 1997, Santokh Chowdhary was elected General Secretary of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee and he remained in this post for about a year. In the year 2002, he was elected as a member of Punjab Vidhansabha by winning from Pilhaur assembly seat on Congress ticket. Then from 2004 to 2010, he was the Vice President of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee. He was elected to the 16th Lok Sabha in the year 2014 after defeating Pawan Kumar Tinu of SAD party from Jalandhar constituency, Punjab.
