BCCI: The BCCI has announced a cash prize for the Indian women’s team that emerged champions in the ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has announced an amount of 5 crores for the team and support staff. India beat England by 7 wickets in the final of T20 World Cup.

New Delhi: The BCCI has announced a cash prize of Rs 5 crore for the Indian team that emerges champions in the very first edition of the ICC Under-19 Women’s World Cup. Team India won the first ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup trophy by defeating England by seven wickets in the final match. After the announcement of the award, BCCI secretary Jay Shah said, “Congratulations to the Indian women’s team on winning the Under-19 World Cup. It is a phenomenal achievement as our young cricketers have made the country proud. Young players have shown their courage without fear.

Jai Shah tweeted and wrote, ‘Women’s cricket is moving forward in India and the World Cup victory has raised the stature of women’s cricket several notches higher. I am happy to announce Rs 5 crore as prize money for the entire team and support staff.

Shafali’s team bowled out England for just 68 runs on the back of some brilliant fielding along with a brilliant bowling performance. Pacer Titus Sadhu, off-spinner Archana Devi and leg-spinner Parshvi Chopra were accurate in their line and length and got enough help. He took two wickets each. While Shefali, left-arm spinner Mannat Kashyap and Sonam Yadav got one wicket each in a dominating bowling performance.

Chasing 69, India lost Shefali and Shweta Sehrawat in the first four overs on a slow pitch and supportive spinners, but Saumya Tiwary (24 not out) and Gongadi Trisha (24) shared a 46-run partnership for the third wicket. Chasing the target in 14 overs, India got their first World Cup title in women’s cricket.

Shah invited the Indian Under-19 women’s team to be part of the celebrations at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad when the third T20 match between India and New Zealand is played on Wednesday. “I invite Shafali Verma and her victorious team to join us at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and watch the 3rd T20 match on 1st February,” he added.
